Charles Emmet was the sixth son born to Laura (Coster) and William (11) Colville Emmet. A grandson of Thomas Addis Emmet, he was born in New York on April 15, 1844. He graduated from the Columbia Law School in 1869 and is listed in the 1880 NYC Directory as living with several brothers and his mother at 30 West 49th street, while working as a lawyer at an office at 52 Wall Street.
He was made the guardian of his youngest brother, Augustus, who was only 15 when their father, William Colville (11) died; there are some financial records indicating the Charles took his responsibilities seriously. In the early 1900s, he took a couple of trips to Europe, but otherwise there is virtually no information about him that we can find. He never married and died at the Plaza Hotel on the 16th of April, 1928, leaving a comparatively large estate of over $400,000 dollars, which his will divided among 24 people; $100,000 of it went to his youngest brother, Augustus. Like his parents, he is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.
